What is included?
Our gallery of images and videos will provide a great wealth of ideas on the doors we make, and these sections are designed for understanding just some of the options. We throughly recommend a phone call to navigate and refine your selection, given the endless options.
While this following section provides information about how we build doors, it should be noted that we are speaking particularly of exterior grade doors; with internal doors being offered and quoted upon request at a lower cost due to lower hardware and construction requirements. Every door is made to order and as such any customization is available.
Architects and Designers sometimes require a door to be custom built to fit into an existing frame or for a restoration - such as with Eichler homes - and this is an area where we excel in. We produce doors up to 126" in height and up to 50" (single leaf) width, although any size is possible. We work directly with clients and their local contractors to deliver a wonderful door.
Standard with any door we make will be that is is entirely complete and only requires installation - there will be no need for further hardware. Part of the complete system is the door jamb, threshold, header, sidelights (if specified), locks, handles, weather stripping, hinges and full finishing.
Genuine wood with Radial or standard Book-Match.
Oak, teak, cherry, walnut, and mahogany are choices and are all book-matched with our unique technique for radial patterns. Our standard is book-matched vertical walnut, and you have the option of changing either or both sides of the door to Radial. Our woods used are selected, architectural grade and knot free and always from older growth trees to provide the widths required and tight grain structure.
Hardware
You can select your own hardware or have us provide it (recommended). As seen in this image our default production is to use crescent handles. We produce these in brass, stainless steel and can powder coat them to any color.
You have the choice for almost any type of lever or handle, you can also specify a different handle on the door for the interior and exterior or even a different material such as Stainless for the interior and brass for the exterior.
Where our handles are used, the lock employed is the "Accurate" 9100 Series roller latch with collars for trim, which is a grade 1 tier security level lock that locks and unlocks the door with a simple key turn. It is mortised and has a deadbolt function. It has other features. Smart Locks such as those by "level bolt" are commonly used with our doors for those seeking iPhone, remote, android or keypad facilities.
Handles produced after September 2026 are upgraded to the larger 12" models. 10" model shown.
Finishes Available
When used on exterior applications walnut and rosewood will lighten with age regardless of finish, whereas white oak, teak, cherry and Sapele will darken with age. Ebony almost remains unchanged but may very slightly lighten. Teak can color shift slightly lighter or darker and is the outlier for predictability. For interior applications fading and darkening is not a particular issue.
We recommend either oak or teak for exterior woods as the most durable choices with teak being considered the best choice of any.
Any door that receives direct light will have its finishes last a significantly shorter period of time. Some morning or late evening sun will reduce your finish life by possibly 25%. Having the door exposed to mid day sun will reduce the life of the finish by 75%. Having it shaded with a proper overhang can result in finishes lasting a decade or even longer. You can select paint and we will paint the doors and jambs to your color choices. Some finishes where the doors receive no direct light can last very long periods indeed with the finish remaining pristine.
Newer homes are leaning towards entrances that are exposed more so than older builds which is regrettable, and due to maximum use of land space, placement is often disregarded in relation to the natural weather patterns and sun orientation due to the intense desire to gain maximum curb appeal. These oversights come at a cost of exposing some doors to exceptional elements.
Your choices:
You can select 2K polyurethane which is a very durable finish but refinishing down the road will require an experienced contractor with skill and must be sprayed, however the lifetime in some sun is years and shaded could be 10 years or longer.
Spar Urethane and 1K water based polyurethanes don't last half as long but are easily applied by almost any contractor or home owner with ease making it a good choice in some instances.
Oiled finishes use true Tung Oils by Waterlox and will require (should the door be sun exposed) annual maintenance. Of all the finishes this is not only one of the best, but also one of the easiest to apply although frequency can be annual/bi-annual. If the door is shaded lifetimes of the oil finish could exceed 5 years.
The ultimate finish:
The best finish that can be obtained and provide a worry free period of many years if not a decade or more if the door has some sun exposure (and longer if it doesn't) is the use of the Awlwood finishing system by Awlgrip. Designed primarily for marine environments, the finishes contain unique characteristics that provide durability and UV resistance that is simply unmatched and usually reserved for yachts. It does come however at a greater cost and will increase the cost of a single door by $595, and for a set of double doors $1,100. Doors finished with this system will have their finish warranty increased by an additional 2 years although the expectation is far longer.

This section discusses sidelights and by September 2026 will include photos of the new, thinner and more refined profile of the sidelights and door jamb we now deploy.
A significant upgrade to our production, these trim-less jambs, stiles and rails provide a seamless look to the interior and exterior reducing the space between the visible window and door from about 6" currently to a mere 2 7/8".
Weather Stripping
All Doors produced after September 2026 will come standard with a wood threshold in the species of wood and an interlocking cap; brass weather stripping to the sides and top. This system can be expected to last 50 years or longer without maintenance.
