What is standard?
Every door is made to order and as such any customization is available. Architects and Designers sometimes require a door to be custom built to fit into an existing frame or for a restoration - such as with Eichler homes - and this is an area where we excel in. We produce doors up to 126" in height and up to 50" (single leaf) width. Any size is possible. We often work directly with clients and their local contractors to deliver a wonderful door. Standard with any door we make will be a mortised door sweep which automatically retracts into the bottom of the door when the door is open. This means it is virtually invisible, and allows for mats to be placed, and is easily serviced unlike nailed on or kerfed sweeps which require the door to be removed to service. Standard are Hager hinges with double bearings for a lifetime of service. Also standard is kerfed weather stripping that is many times more durable than the types often provided. Finally the threshold provided is steel either plain or black and contained a composite bottom for a rot-proof life. All doors are shipped fully finished.
Your Choices:
Genuine wood finishes - Radial or Book-matched standard.
Oak, Teak, Cherry, Walnut and Mahogany are standard choices and are identical in price however Walnut is by far the most common choice. Book-matched Vertical wood to the exterior and interior is standard. You have the option of changing either or both sides of the door to Radial Walnut.
We know the importance of the door’s core
A properly made wood door is produced with real wood lumber stacked together and adhered together. This is called a ‘True Stave Lumber Core' door. This is not to be confused with 'Structural Composite Lumber Core' or 'particle core', which are inferior. Lifetimes for such doors are measured in generations, not years.
Genuine metals machined by hand
We use solid marine 316 stainless steel for our starburst pattern or brass. Brass is used only on interior applications for a satin finish, and is no longer offered on exterior applications except as unfinished. If brass is desired for an exterior application, it will be provided un-lacquered and will develop a patina similar to bronze over time. We can provide a clear finish but can not warranty the brass finish. Aluminum Bars can be produced and powder coated to any color upon request. You can select either a pattern for the interior, exterior or both.
Hardware
You can select your own hardware or have us provide it (recommended). We use either Baldwin lever/knobs with matching dummy handle on the inactive door with a deadbolt in the required finish (satin brass or stainless). The models we use are a significantly higher grade than those found in local box stores. A significant upgrade is selecting the satin brass or stainless steel crescent handles to the interior and exterior which are 10" tall, heavy and substantial. When these handles are used the lock employed is the "Accurate" 9100 Series roller catch with collars for trim, which is a grade 1 tier security level lock that locks and unlocks the door with a simple key turn. It is mortised and has a deadbolt function. It has other features. Smart Locks such as those by "level bolt" are commonly used with our doors for those seeking iPhone, remote, android or keypad facilities.
Finishes available
Any door that receives direct light will have its finishes last a significantly shorter period of time. Some morning or late evening sun will reduce your finish life by possibly 25%. Having the door exposed to mid day sun will reduce the life of the finish by 75%. Having it shaded with a proper overhang can result in finishes lasting a decade or even longer. You can select paint and we will paint the doors and jambs to your color choices. You can select 2K polyurethane which is the most durable finish but refinishing down the road will require an experienced contractor with skill and must be sprayed, however the lifetime in the sun is years and shaded could be 10 years or longer. Spar Urethane doesn't half as long but is easily applied by almost any contractor or home owner with ease making it a good choice. Oiled finishes use true Tung Oils by Waterlox and will require (should the door be sun exposed) annual maintenance. Of all the finishes this is not only one of the best, but also one of the easiest to apply although frequency can be annual/bi-annual. If the door is shaded lifetimes of the oil finish could exceed 5 years. Don't be fooled by lesser oils pretending to be genuine Tung Oils, these properly crafted oils stand the test of time and the doors are waterproof for life even with neglect.

86" tall (we've done up to 126"). Produced November 2025
Standard Book-matched walnut by itself is always a premium and attractive option. Imagine this in any wood species and it can be done.
Radial Walnut with starburst bars added.
With a deep base, this orange is akin to the color palette used by George Nelson and Joseph Eichler. The paint is Aura by Benjamin Moore.
